Elounda is located in east Crete, north of Agios Nikolaos and south of the seaside resort of Plaka. Elounda was once a picturesque fishing village in the lovely Mirabello Bay. The inhabitants lived from farming, fishing, salt extraction from the Venetian saltpans, and emery mining.
Once discovered by tourism, Elounda developed into a resort famous for its beautiful scenery and the luxury hotels which are still being built in the area. It is said to be the place with the most five-star hotels in Greece.
From Elounda you can get actually to the famous Spinaloga island, one of the most famous places to visit while in Crete.
Riding there is very easy and fast. I decided to do a video with the route from Heraklion to Elounda first. More videos will follow. For the video recordings i used 2 GoPros action cameras. A GoPro Hero 5 session (mounded on the steering wheel of my bike) and a GoPro 2018 (mounded on my helmet). Since my memory card has a capacity of 32 gb , i decided to take my laptop with me to download the first part recorded videos.
Not to convenient but necessary. You can see what route i followed in oredr to get to Elounda. Don't forget it is winter time and we have less traffic .Plus the place looks a little abandoned which is not.
You can see the route in:
You can see the ride here:
